The Minnesota Irish Gold finished the ASA National Tournament tied for 17th with a bracket record of 4-2. They started by edging Cincy Doom 3-2 and then rolled over Texas Glory 7-3 in a 2.5 hour game in the rain on Wednesday. Friday the Irish played their best defense shutting out Absolute Blast from Washington 2-0 in the morning and then Tennessee’s Team Worth 2-0 in the rain interupted evening game. Saturday the tables were turned as they were shut out twice by Florida’s Hatters Gold 1-0 and then by Arizona’s Desert Thunder 3-0.

Placing in the top 24 among 164 teams from 34 states in the nation’s best fastpitch tournament was a great achievement, once again giving some well deserved recognition to the players, the team, and the Irish program. Special thanks to Head Coach Jimmy Carlson and Assistant Coach Jack Carlson for their dedication and efforts.

The MN Irish have announced their plans for the 2010 summer season. The Minnesota Irish have a long history of success in preparing athletes to compete at the highest levels of softball from 14U to ASA’s 18U Gold division on their way to college careers. The teams plan to compete this fall in the USSSA Fall League and in the Minnesota Fastpitch League next summer. We’re looking for players that are committed to practice hard, play hard, and compete in local and out of state tournaments.

The MN Irish plan on having an 18 Gold division team, and 18U Elite team competing in the Class A division, two 16U and two 14U teams competing in the A division. Coaches will take a more active role in player recruiting and team formation than in recent years. Players will be permitted to tryout for specific teams.
